This is where you will find what Van Meter kids say about their day as a Van Meter student.

Hunter Janis
When I wake up I take my shower, then I brush my teeth. Go to school, when I get to school I drop my stuff off in my first class. Then I go hang out with friends, until the second bell rings.

1st hour rolls around, and I’m so tired that I might just sleep in this class. I space off for a little bit, then the bell rings and I go to studyhall.
2nd I got to study hall and get my favorite spot, I hang out with friends for the whole hour. Just talk the whole period and play game on our electronic devices.
3rd Math Not my assignment done, so I get in trouble. Maybe if im lucky get yelled at. Do my assignment in class.
4th Go to class, do something im not supposed to and get yelled at. Get called annoying.
Advisory go to my advisory drop my stuff off and then go play basketball in the Gym. Go shoot for the Advisory, then go get my stuff from my advisory.
5th hour Walk to my class, usually get yelled at for something. Than most of the students don’t have there assignments.
6th hour P.E I get yelled at for not listening and acting up.
V.R I get yelled at or something way out of proportion.
Health Im usually really good in Health, maybe because it’s my favorite class.
7th hour I’m usually really good in the last two classes of the day, unless I don’t like the teachers.
8th hour Im sorta good in my hex, but who knows.
Onica Johnson

I wake up at about 6:30 hit snooze till its like 7:00. Get up out of bed. Go in the bathroom. Do my makeup. Then I do my hair. I brush my teeth. Then I go downstairs in my room. Get dressed. Then I get my bag ready for track. Then my mom takes me to school.
History is my first class, and the class I hate the most, we sit there and get on his little website then do some long project it seems we do everyday then take notes on some dead people.

I normally just do my math in study hall, and then when I’m done I get on tumblr & talk to people & out study hall teacher is our History teacher, then he normally freaks out on us then tells us we’re too loud.

After study hall I go to math, math is my favorite class. We take notes then do example problems, and if we do well we get participation slips, then at the end we get our assignment then leave.

In language we always do something different that’s why I don’t mind this class. Sometimes we’ll write a book, do writing prompts, just read, and twice a quarter we have to do 2 book reports on books.

In advisory its just like another study hall, so if I have work I do it, but there’s not a lot of people I like in my advisory like a lot of little kids so I always leave & go to a different one.

I used to hate science & I used to fail it, but then I switched to a different class and my grades are a lot better, and that class isn’t bad at all, it’s kind of fun.

When I get to lunch I eat with friends

My class after lunch changes each day a week, on Mondays I have VR which is a virtual reality & we use the app on our laptops google scetchup & blender, to me I like that class when we used google scetchup, but when we got to blender I thought it was boring & stupid. On Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday I have PE, & I hate that class everything we do in that class is just not even PE like we do a whole bunch of weird testing… On Wednesdays we have Health & for some reason I am never in that class I don’t know why, but we learn about health stuff.

This class is a trimester class, so we switch every trimester, the one I’m in currently is Enrichment Social Studies. We do a lot of writing, & debates & research. We form outlines & thesis & such & send it to him in a word document.

This is the last class I have of the day & we switch classes every 6 weeks. The current one I am in is finance & we learn about money & bank accounts & all that. We work on worksheets watch videos, then it leads up to our test.

Go to the locker room & change. We go on the track & do what our coach tells us. Track ends about 5:00. Go home & get my softball stuff. Go back to the school & go practice pitching. Weight lift after about an hour. Go do fielding.

I come home. Take a shower. Brush my teeth. Plug my phone in and text. Charge my computer. Go to bed.

Well some days I follow a routine some days I don’t. I don’t know why you care to hear about our boring lives, but here it goes. I plug all my electronics in the night before so its all recharged for the next day. I get my little brothers out of there cribs. Go upstairs and change there diapers. Get them in there chairs and feed them breakfast. Get one of my parents up so they can watch them, so I can finish getting ready for school.
When I’m done me and my brother wait upstairs for the bus. When it comes we go out to our bus, I usually at this time turn my music up loud and tune everyone else out. I walk into school go up the stairs go to my locker and un load my things. Once I’m done I go and find my friends and talk about all weird kinds of stuff.
Then we go to first period. We usually talk a lot till he tells us to be quiet then we get out our computers and go to the forum things and do our questions. Then he usually talks and we then do our assignments.
Next period is study hall which I usually finish all my homework then get on random websites and LOL. Which is pretty much the whole class period. The next class is math which is sometimes a hassle because no one ever likes to finish there assignments. Anyways next class is Language arts which we use our computers a lot and read a lot cool.
Then we have our advisorys and we usually do homework or talk. Then we have science and in science we usually do a lot of book work and take notes and stuff. The next class is usually health, PE, or Virtual Reality. Which those classes are fun. Then we have our lit, classes where we usually work on a specific topics and charactistics. After all that we have our hexes were again we specialize in more topics and such. Then we go home. Wow. Cool.

Life For an Iowan

I wake up at 7:00 I take a shower right away and then I go eat breakfast. That is after I get dressed though. Then it’s off to school. School starts at 8:30s. My first class is with Mrs. Wesselmann. It language we usually read or work on a paper.
My Next class is study hall. I do my math in this class. It gets boring in there though because when you’re done with all your homework you just sit there or play games. Mr. (Kent) Miller is our study hall teacher.
The class after this is Earth Science. This class takes forever to get over. Our teacher is Mr. (Bill) Miller. He has been working here for a while so he knows a lot of stuff so he does a lot of talking. Though we can get him off topic really easily so that helps make the class go faster.
Then I have History with Mr. (Kent) Miller. This is my favorite class. We usually watch videos of what were learning about or we make projects. It’s really fun! After this class I go to advisory. This is pretty much a study hall sometimes we just sit there and talk with our teacher.
Then it’s off to math! Mrs. Carey teaches us. For the first thirty minutes of this class she teachers then we go to lunch. I bring my own lunch. When were done we go back to math. There is only like ten minutes left so she gives us our assignment and we just work on it till class is over.
Now sixth hour is confusing it changes every day. It is sometimes P E and sometimes health. I would rather have P E then health. Our P E teacher is Mr. Jones and our health teacher is Mrs. Callahan. Right now in health we are learning how to save people. In P E we are learning Yoga.
After sixth hour we go to Mrs. Wesselmann’s class. Which is reading. We are doing a group project where we read and then we answer questions about the book. On Fridays in this class we have fourth grade buddies. We go down to the elementary and we help them with their projects or just do fun activities.
Finally we have eighth hour. Right now I am in literature with Mrs. Prouty. You get to learn a language in this class. You get to choose between Spanish, Chinese, or French. I chose Chinese just for fun! It is a funny language to learn how they talk is really funny. When this class ends I go to track when that is over I go home to my lovely house where I pig out on food and do homework. Then I eat dinner and go to bed! NIGHT!

Makila Leanne

I always wake up at 5:00 am. I go to my bathroom wash my face, do my makeup, and put my clothes on. After that’s done I make sure I have all of my books and notebooks put into my bag. I make sure that my computer is ready. I let my dog out so he can go to the bathroom. I like to listen to music to give me a jump-start for the day. I also will get on Facebook and talk to friends and get on my email and talk on there as well.
After I’ve got all my personal things taken care of I get my shoes on and put on a sweatshirt. I talk to my grandpa while we are watching for my bus to come around the corner. I walk onto the bus or I walk to my friend’s house. It’s a 45 minutes bus ride so I always need something to do. Normally I just talk to my friends.
Once I get to school I eat breakfast if I haven’t already. I unpack my things and put my computer in my 1st period class. Then I go around and find my friends to talk to. When the 1st bell rings I get to my class. I get through the day. My first period class is Language arts, we always read books or write papers. In study hall I either sing, homework, or I have band. I have band every other day. In band we play songs or we do warm ups.
I have Pre Algebra 3rd hour and we take tests do homework. Right now we just took a test on fractions and exponents. 4th hour is my history class. We normally take notes or do homework. I have advisory everyday and that’s my 5th hour class. Advisory is pretty much a giant study hall. I hang out or do homework. In 6th hour I have science and I take notes. We take lots of tests in that class. I also read and do homework. We are learning about volcanoes and about the atmosphere.
Finally we have lunch, we talk to friends and I eat lunch. In Physical Education we stretch out and run. Sometimes we get homework in that class. In Enrichment Social studies we talk about writing prompt and things. It’s kind of like language arts. In VR (virtual reality) we build things like houses. If I’m not in VR I’m in health. In health we learn about our bodies and ourselves. Technology is one of my favorite classes. We talk about Internet safety and sometimes we get on Skype and video chat authors.
Finally at the end of the day the bell rings and I pack my things up and get on the bus. I get home and eat my afterschool snack and get my homework ready. I have a study time. I study from 4:30 to 7:30 everyday. At 6:00 I go eat dinner and then go back to my homework. After my homework I get ready for bed. That’s pretty much my day.

What I do in a day

I wake up and I go down the stairs. First I take a shower. Then I eat breakfast. I either eat cereal, eggs, or just some toast. Then I brush my teeth. I put on some clothes usually shorts and a T-Shirt. Then I pack my computer, and my sister takes me to school.
I get to school a half an hour early to play basketball in the gym. I play some 3 on 3 usually and, then go to first hour (American History). We usually just write notes and get an assignment. We have time to do it in class. Then I have second hour study hall. In that class I do my math homework. Then I get on ESPN.com to check scores, and most of the time it’s the Miami Heat. I check my fantasy basketball or baseball. I talk about sports stuff with the teacher. Then I go to third hour Math were we first check our daily assignment. Then we take notes that she write on the board and write down my assignment. Then I go to fourth hour language/reading. A lot of the time we just read but sometimes we write stories about random stuff. We sometimes read and on Fridays we do all of the book reports. Then I have advisory in that class we don’t do much besides talk and do extra homework. I usually do the same thing in there as I do in study hall. Next I go to fifth hour Science. There we mostly just listen to him teach a lesson and then do an assignment. Then I go to lunch. Lunch is normal it is just one big room with a bunch of tables. Our lunches are split into four 15-minute periods. After lunch I go to sixth hour PE, and we usually just do something like testing of some sort and after that we usually play basketball for the remainder of the class. Then I go to seventh hour Lit. And we read our books and fill out work sheets then the teacher reads out of a book called Harris and Me. Then I have 8th hour FCS and there we usually cook something like cookies. Then after that my sister takes me home.
Then when I get home I eat a snack. Next I do my homework. Then I go to the outside court bye the school and play pick up games with some people until it gets dark. Then I play XBOX 360 a little bit and usually play NBA 2k11. Then we eat dinner. Then my dad and I look for an NBA game or any sports game. And I watch ESPN. Then I brush my teeth and go to bed.

Kelsey Cozad

The first thing I do in the morning is wake up to my mom calling my cell phone from up stairs. This normally takes place at 7:00. I soon get up and take a 12-minute shower and try to get dressed, do my make up and hair by 7:30. I do this so I can go back to bed for 30 minutes because I don’t have to leave for school till 8:00. Most days my mom will take me to school or my neighbor Ann who also has kids will take my sister and I. When I get to school its about 8:20 by the time I walk upstairs and put my bags away its around 8:20 this still gives me time to walk around the school with my friends for about 10 minutes.
When its time to go to class my first class is Language Arts with Mrs. Wesselmann where I normally will do some sort of writing activity or if we don’t have an assignment we will read a book. After that class I go to study hall where I do my math homework because that’s the class we have next. The teacher of math is Mrs. Carey who will normally teach math on the smart board, which is a board that is electronic and is hooked up to her computer. When math is over I head to history, that is taught by Mr. Miller but everyone just calls him K Mill since we have 3 teachers with the last name of Miller. K Mill teaches us about the past of America and we normally have some sort of assignment from him everyday but his homework never takes very long so its not too bad. Soon after History we have Advisory. My teacher for that class is Mr. Hyer. We don’t do much of anything in that class, I kind of use it as an extra study hall. After that we go to Earth Science where we normally read in the science book and then do an assignment that we can normally get done in class. The next thing I do is go to lunch I normally bring my own lunch just because I like the food I make at home better than the schools food. When I am done with lunch I normally have my friend Pam walk me to my Science class to get my books.
Then we quickly get to our other class, 6th hour always changes from P.E with Mr. Jones to Health with Mrs. Callahan or V.R. In P.E. we normally have to work out or make up work outs with a group to show the class and in health we learn about the body and most of the time we have to write up a powerpoint about what we are learning to show the class. V.R is one of my favorite classes because it’s where we get to build houses or other things online and it really fun except when you have to do measurement.
After one of those classes I go to Enrichment Science with Mr. Armistead where at the moment we are building video games and its really fun because of all the things you get to design! Then the last class of the day I have art where we make paintings and draw things! When school is over my mom normally picks me up and takes me home where I will do homework if I have it or I will just sit around play on my computer and have dinner.

Nathan Smith
In the morning I wake up around 6:55-7:00 AM. I grab my cloths and go take a shower. When I am done with my shower I get dressed and put my contacts in. I eat breakfast that consists of a Pop tart, cereal, doughnuts, or muffins. I watch a little Sports Center then brush my teeth and finally I grab my laptop and head out the door. My brother drives me to school.
When I get to school I usually have 10 minutes to play basketball with my friends. When the first bell rings 5 min before class starts. I head up to my locker, drop my backpack off, grab my laptop, and I head to first hour.
In first hour I have Language Arts with Mrs. Wesselmann who is a really fun teacher. We usually read or work on some type of assignment.
I then have second hour with Mr. (K) Miller who is a really funny teacher and makes everything really fun. In study hall I usually work on a assignment or talk to friends.
After 2nd hour I have third hour which is Earth Science with Mr. (B) Miller. I don’t like this class because it seems like it last forever. We usually work on a assignment or talk about something in the book.
After 3rd hour we have 4th hour, which is American History with Mr. (K) Miller, which as I said before is a really fun teacher that makes everything fun. I like this class a lot more than Earth Science! We usually work on a project or take notes from a PowerPoint.
After 4th hour I have Advisory with Mrs. Miller. Advisory is a class where a bunch of kids your grade level come and do homework or just hang out.
After Advisory I go to Algebra 1 with Mrs. Carry, who is a really awesome teacher! We usually take notes and then at 12:30 we go to lunch.
Lunch is usually pretty good we all socialize and eat.
After lunch we come back to Algebra for the last 10 min of it. We usually get an assignment, but we usually can’t get it done so we almost always have homework.
After Algebra I have 6th hour, which rotates every week. I have several 6th hour things that rotate each week one week it is Monday: PE, Tuesday: Virtual Reality, Wednesday: PE, Thursday: Health, Friday: switches from week to week being Virtual Reality or Health. In VR we get to use cool tools like Blender and Google Sketch up to make and design things. In Health we learn all about our bodies and how they function. In PE we play fun games or work out in the weight room
In 7th hour we have a tri, which rotates after 12 weeks. Right now I have a writing course with Mr. (K) Miller. We write and research about certain topics and I think is really cool.
After 8th hour we have a Hex and right now I have Technology where we make a bunch of projects and have fun. We usually have a bunch of people from other schools watching our class while we have it.
After 8th hour I go to my locker and go get my backpack and go to the car. My brother also drives me home. When I get home I do my homework, play basketball, do chores, Sometimes I have a practice or a game for a sport, or just play video games. I eat and find ways to waste time till I go to bed around 10:00 PM.

This is what my average Monday is like for Cameron Smith:

7:00am, wake up. 7:01am, try to fall back to sleep. 7:15am, Mom makes me get up. 7:20am still groggy. 7:30am get dressed. 7:40am brush teeth. 7:50am leave for school. 8:10am arrive at school. 8:11am wait in the hall and then go into Mrs. Wesselman’s room.

9:57am Paxton and I run to our locker, because we are late for science. 9:58am talk about how we hate science. 10:00am clench my teeth while the science teacher talks about something that has nothing to do with volcanoes.

10:32am run to KMill’s history class (My favorite class). 10:33am listen to KMill give a PowerPoint about the American Revolution. 10:50am get an assignment. 10:51am get in a discussion with KMill, and Nick about something that has nothing to do with history (Eternal Life on Earth). 10:55am learn something really cool from our discussion. 10:56am hurry to finish my assignment.
11:25am history is over, walk to advisory. 11:26am play video game. 11:30am realize my math homework is not done. 11:45am finish my math homework.

11:56am go to math do not pass go, do not collect $200. 12:01am check assignment. 12:15am get impatient, and start doodling stick guys while learning about exponents. 12:20am count down the seconds until lunch. 12:29am make sure I’m the first out the door to lunch. 12:30am join Josh as he gets his lunchbox. 12:31am have Paxton ask me for food. 12:32am get lunch (typically pizza, or chips). 12:40am say something that makes John try to smack me (he’s crazy, and everyone thinks its funny when he rambles about the word Jell-O). 12:50am go back to math. 12:51am get math assignment. 12:52am count down the minutes until class is over.

1:04pm run to PE, regret getting there early. 1:07pm warm up for PE. 1:08pm talk to Paxton. 1:10pm Humiliate myself at gymnastics. 1:30pm pray that PE is over soon.

1:52pm PE is over. 1:53pm fight for a spot near the charger in Mrs. Wesselman’s room. 1:55pm Mrs. Wesselman reads us a story. I laugh too loud. 2:30pm I begin thinking about my next class.

2:35pm I walk down to my second favorite class, Foods. 2:37pm we get our recipe, and begin to cook. I am in complete control. 2:40pm something goes wrong, it always does. 2:50pm I fix it. 3:00pm we feast on our food. 3:25pm I run to get ready for track.

3:30pm Paxton and I talk while we put our shoes on. 3:40pm we begin to stretch, I feel horrible. 4:00pm we divide into groups, and begin doing our running, I’m always last :D. 4:40pm Paxton and I are done with our running, we don’t do field, so we walk around the track and talk.

5:00pm Track is over, I change back to my other clothes. 5:30pm my dad picks me up from the school. 5:45pm we finally get home I sneak upstairs to watch TV. 6:30pm my mom yells at me to do my homework. 6:31pm I tell her it is done so I can watch TV. 6:35pm Supper, my pick brothers don’t eat it as usual. 7:00pm I begin my homework. 9:30pm I’m done. 9:45pm I’m in bed reading with my camp light. 10:45pm I finally fall asleep

Michael Kinley

I wake up in the morning at 6:30. Take a shower, get dressed, eat food, and drive to school with my sister. When I get there I go hang out with friends, once I hear the first bell I start to head to first hour. It is reading. When we walking in we take attendance, and then have some short assignment, or we just read the whole class.
After that is study hall, I just mess around in study hall, usually I have all my home work done so I just hang out.
Third hour is science, we walk in and sit there for about 20 min. then finally start some sort of discussion unrelated to the chapter, and we get an assignment, and then leave. The class has no benefit.
Next is American History, we usually take some notes off of a PowerPoint or get a book assignment. Then at the end of the chapter we take an online test and then start a new chapter.
Then we have advisory, which is like a mini study hall, I do math homework in advisory sometimes, or start a math test early.
After advisory is math, we have a daily assignment that we check at the beginning of class, then we learn the new lesson. At the end of the chapter we take a test, which is the biggest part of the grade for that class.
Sixth hour is a mix of things. Some days I have PE where we play games like football and basketball. Or I have health when we learn about the human body. If I don’t have PE or health I have VR, which is a class where we make 3d models of stuff.
For seventh hour I just go the library and either hang out, do homework, or talk to other people around the world through technology.
Eighth hour changes every 30 days. Just finished home ec. Where we made food. Today I go to art where we will make art projects.
After school I have track practice or a track meet.
Then I go home, eat, do homework, and go to sleep.

Carly McQuiston
In the morning I wake up at 6:00 a.m. and get into the shower. Once I get out I do my makeup, go downstairs and get coffee, and then go back to my room and do my hair. When I’m done doing my hair I get dressed and get my stuff together to school. At around 7:50 my brother and I go to school. He’s 16 so he drives me every day.
We usually get to school around 8:00, so I walk around and talk to my friends, but on Wednesdays I have SLT in Mrs. Wesselmann’s room. My first hour class is language with Mrs. Wesselmann. In her class we just got done writing books. It was a lot of fun. Language gets out at 9:11, and then I go to second hour, which is either study hall or chorus. On Mondays and Wednesdays I have chorus with Mr. Long, and the rest of the time I have study hall. Mr. Miller is our study hall teacher, but since we have 2 Mr. Millers we call him K. Mill. Second hour gets out at 9:56 and then I go to pre-algebra. Mrs. Cary and Mrs. Heard are my pre-algebra teachers. Mrs. Heard is also my track coach.
When third hour gets out at 10:42 I go to US history, with K. Mill. We just got done learning about the economical growth of the North and South during the 1800s. After fourth hour, which ends at 11:27, I have advisory. Mr. Jones, the gym teacher, is my advisor. In advisory I usually just do the homework that I have from pre-algebra so that I don’t have to take my textbook home. After advisory gets over at 11:56, I go to earth science with Mr. Fitkin. I hate to say it, but science is definitely my worst subject, but overall I like the class because a lot of my friends are in it. We just got done learning about volcanoes.
After science is over we go to lunch at 12:44. I like going to lunch mostly for the socializing. When lunch gets out at 1:04 I go to sixth hour. Sixth hour gets kind of confusing, because on Mondays and Wednesdays I have gym, on Tuesdays I have health, and on Thursdays I have virtual reality. On Fridays I either have health or VR, because we switch of each week. After sixth I have enrichment science at 1: 54, with Mr. Armistead. Seventh hour is my trimester class. We are making computer games in this class, which is pretty fun.
My eighth hour class, shop, starts at 2:41. It’s the last class of the day. My teacher for this class is Mr. Cooper, who is also my VR teacher. We just finished making piggy banks out of wood. I’m not going to lie: shop definitely isn’t my favorite class. I think I don’t like it very much because I’m just not really into wood making and stuff. It’s just not really my thing.
After school gets out at 3:25 I have to go down to the locker room and get ready for track. My track coach is Coach Heard. I really like her. I usually have track every day of the week, and then on Mondays after track I have dance. I go to Amy’s School Of Dance in Winterset. It’s a lot of fun because I go to dance in a different town, so I get to meet a lot of new people.
On Wednesdays after track I have church. I go to church Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night. My brother drives my friend Summer and I, because he likes to go, too. Our church is called Desoto Calvary Baptist and my pastor’s name is Lonnie Koons. He’s a lot of fun.
Once I’m done with all my daily stuff, I go home and do my homework, or other things that I have to do, like chores. After I’m done with all that I start getting ready for bed. I usually go to bed around 10:00 or 10:30. That is my typical day.

Nick Smiley

I wake up any where from 5:30 to 7:10 in the mourning. Roll over get out of bed and then go through the process of my morning. Then I collect my school supplies, say goodbye to my parents and go outside to sit on the bench that is in front of my garage door. Then I wait till around 7:45 am for the bus to arrive then get on the bus and head for my usual seat in the back. We arrive at school at anywhere between 8:05 and 8:10.
We get off the bus at 8:10 I turn to the right and go thought the elementary to the stairs by the cafeteria. Once up the stairs I walk past my first hour classroom. I go to my locker 221 and I put my assorted things into the locker and go to my first hour class. My first hour class consists of some sort of reading exercise, or project of some sort, but now that I’m truly thinking about it the only day of this class I really remember is the Friday book talks or book reports depending on your name for such things.
Afterward I walk out of that class and go to second hour study hall, which usually consists of me playing Minecraft at the back of the classroom wile ignoring my history homework.
Once done there I go to science my most boring class of the day and only because of the teacher. Just the way he talks about the subject just puts you to sleep. It’s like having to talk to your really old grandpa “Back In my day…”
Afterword’s I wake up at the end of class and I go back to my locker put my science book away and get my history book then walk down the hall to history and go to the back of the class room we learn about history stuff and I hardly pay any attention but still manage decent grades. Usually the class consists of some PowerPoint and a forum post.
(I‘m going to tell you now I am a half-day student half at home school half at regular school. I take the main courses language/reading, science and history at school, and then I go home and do math and gym.) After that I go down to the bench outside of the high school gym and wait for my father to pick me up and depending on the day we go to the gym or to work for a couple of hours. Once done with that we go home, and I do the assigned homework for the day along with my algebra. Then when I’m done with my work, I go down to the basement and play Xbox360 until dinner then after dinner I watch TV with my parents and little sister. Then my parents go to bed at around 9 and I stay up till any where in between 11:00P.M. to 1:30A.M. then I go to bed and repeat that process until the end of the earth and we all die in giant ball of fire.

My day starts out with me just getting up. I take a shower get dressed and go eat some pop tarts. Then I wait outside for the bus to come. Our bus has pick up a lot a people so it takes 20mins. Before I get to school. They usually drop us off 10 or 15 minutes early. So I just go to my class play a game or work on homework before class starts. Are school day starts at the sound of a bell at 8:30am.
My first period class is language arts with Mrs. Wesslman. She is a pretty good teacher. She has her days were she get a little grumpy. But overall she has a fun and enjoyable class. We get to read a book then we watch the movie if there is one.
Then after first period we have 4min. breaks between classes. My second period class is study hall. The teacher in this class is Mr. miller. I will talk about him later. Study hall is my time that I do my math. But if I bring it home or there is no homework assigned that day your suppose to do something educational but who does that? Most of the time kids just have an article up or something like that and then they play a game and when the teacher walks around we just pull the article up and hide the game.
Then I move on to math is one of my favorite classes. Lots of people don’t like math but it seems like I just know how to do it. Mr. Fitkin teaches this class. He is my favorite teacher out of them all. He is easy going when you do what he says. But he can get mad. Lots of people don’t not turn in the assailments and he get on them
about that. But overall he is my favorite teacher. This is his first year teaching and if you did not now you would think he been teaching for a long time. 8
Then we move on to American geography. Mr. miller the same guy from study hall is the teacher. We have more than one Mr. miller’s at are school so we call him kmiller, because his first name is Kent. He can be the nicest teacher in the world or the maddest on the world. We you get him mad he gets mad. He really does not like it when people tip in their chair and fall he will pick up the chair and almost throw it. But that rarely happens and he is one of the nicest people you meet if you don’t make him mad.
This is the time of day called advisory. We you teacher talks to you about you grades and try’s to help you. I think this is a helpful class and they should keep it for the rest of the years. This is the first year we have tried it.
Then we move on to5th period. This is one of the boring classes in the world science. I like science but the other Mr. miller that I was talking about. It seems like are grade just retires science teacher we did last you and now Mr. miller is retiring this year. He tries to make his class fun but it is just boring.
Then after his class we go strait to lunch. It seems like are school gives us the same things every week. But all they do is just rename what the food is called. Sometimes the food can be good but most of the time I don’t eat the food because it is bad. My favorite food is when the give us Doritos, meat and some salad you mix it together and it is really good.
After lunch is when you can get confused on my schedule but this is it. on Monday I have virtual reality on Tuesday and Thursday I have P.E. I think you know what health and P.E. are but not virtual reality. It is were you can use a program on your computer can Google sketch up. You can build things like you would on real life but its on the computer.
After 6 period I go to enrichment science. Are school has 8 periods and instead of them giving us 2 study halls they gave us class to help us with science reading and writing. They are ok but I don’t think that they really help that much but there ok.
Then I move on you the last period of the day shop. Shop is really fun. I like cutting and making things and just using my hands to build things. But then the bell rings at 3:25pm and everyone leaves and go’s home.

I wake up in the morning at 6:15, and get ready for school. At 7:00 I leave home, and eat breakfast in the car. When I get to school, it is 7:30. On Mondays, I just wait downstairs in my mom’s guidance office. On Tuesday, Thursday, Friday I go upstairs for High School Jazz Band. On Wednesday I go upstairs for Jr. High SLT (Student Leadership Team). The jazz band director is Mr. Long, and the SLT advisor is Mrs. Wesselmann. Then I usually go and talk to my friends for 5 minutes, before I go to class at 8:30.
From 8:30-9:12 I am in Language Arts with Mrs. Wesselmann. We just got finished writing chapter books with a large group. My group’s book was called Plague.
From 9:15-9:57 I go to band or chorus. On Monday and Wednesday I have chorus. We are singing five songs, “I am a Small Part of the World”, “Colors of the Wind”, “Double Trouble”, “Siyahamba” and “America: The Spirit Lives On”. On Tuesday, Thursday, Friday I have band, where I play the drums. We are playing to songs right now, “America: The Spirit Lives On”, and “Colonel John”. The music teacher is Mr. Long.
From 10:00-10:42 I have Earth Science with Mr. B Miller. We are learning about weather and wind right now.
From 10:45-11:27 I have US History with Mr. K Miller. We are learning about sectionalism and slavery right now.
From 11:30-11:57 I have advisory, which is like a study hall, so you can get caught up on homework. My advisor is Mrs. Carey. On Tuesday and Thursday I have Jr. High Jazz Band, where I play the drum set.
From Noon-1:04 I have Algebra I, with Mrs. Carey. We are learning about exponential growth and decay.
From 1:08-1:51 I have PE/Health/ VR. On Monday and Wednesday I have PE, with Mr. Jones. On Tuesday I have VR (Virtual Reality), with Mr. Cooper. We just finished making a gingerbread man on the program Blender. On Thursday I have Health with Mrs. Callahan. We are learning about first aid right now. Then on every other Friday we switch between Health and VR.
From 1:55-2:38 I have Enrichment Science. This is a trimester class with Mr. Armistead. Right now we are leading how to create games on a website called Gamestarmechanic.
From 2:42-3:25 I have Shop with Mr. Cooper. This is a hex class, and ends soon. We are finishing up making wooden piggy-banks, and creating paper airplanes.
After school I have track from 3:40-5:00. I run in the 4x800, the 1500-meter run, and the 800-meter run. We won our last meet, and I won every event I was in! The track coach is Coach Heard. After Track I go home, do my homework, eat, take a shower, finish homework or watch TV, and then go to bed.

Class#1 American history: Everyday my first class is American history we don’t always use our technology but we definitely make use of a lot we often use it for assignments posting our thoughts on subjects and taking notes while we follow along with his notes in class and for a lot of our projects we can use applications on our computers so that gives us more time to learn some of the applications were using too. We don’t just use our computers all the time thought we also do regular writing instead of staring at a computer screen the whole day

Class#3 pre algebra
My next period is pre algebra we barely use out computers in pre algebra because well mathematic is best don’t with your mind not a calculator because number 1 it helps you progress in the subject and number 2 you wont learn a thing if you always use technology to help you.

Class#4 language
Language is a class that we use our technology in a lot it makes it really cool because we are able to write more fluently and we are able to obtain more ideas than what we would regularly have without getting ideas from the computer its amazing the stuff we do we usually just get in class wait tell the bell rings and then either read or work on papers to write for class.

Class#5 advisory
Advisory is pretty much like a small study hall for me it helps me get caught up on my work for classes and get any grades that may be low up at the same time advisory can also be a great way to talk and get to know your friends more than what you already know it is also a good time that you can take a break if you don’t have any homework. All the advisory teachers are really nice and not to worried about what your doing unless you need to get caught up on homework.

Class#6 E science
Earth science it a great class we do experiments like looking at microscopic items learning about basic things like weather, minerals, volcanism, and stuff like Pangaea we usually look at examples when studying items in science it can help a lot some times especially for tests one thing that’s hard about science is that sometimes you have to listen really hard to get some main points but that can be very helpful because it allows you to pull the more important information out of the things that are being said

Class#7 Health/pe/Virtual reality
My classes like pe health and virtual reality are really fun we learn thing that are not necessarily needed in life but can definitely be extremely useful PE is very fun some of the units included are weight lifting, yoga, fitness testing, basketball, and many other units other than those. Heath includes stuff like the human body and its diseases and then stuff like how to keep your body clean and healthy. And finally there is virtual reality witch shows us how to use an application on out computers called blender which is used for stuff like 3d movies and really cool graphic design like games.

Class#8 My 8th class is an mix of many different things we switch classes every so often we have stuff like enrichment science language and social studies for enrichment classes we don’t really use the computers we are given so it’s a little different form what were used too.

The first thing I do in the morning is wake up at 7 a clock, and jump in the shower. For about 10 minutes I am in the shower putting shampoo and conditioner in my hair. I get out and go downstairs to eat breakfast. I come back up to my room and brush my teeth and clean my face. Then I start doing my makeup. First my face makeup, then my eyeliner and mascara. I usually just get out jeans and a shirt or maybe sweatpants. Nothing fancy. I spray some perfume on then I go downstairs again and get all my books and homework ready and computer bag and put it in my sisters car. I usually grab a Dr. Pibb or a Pepsi because I don’t think I could stay awake if I didn’t have one each morning.

My sister is a junior in high school; she goes to the same school as me because van meter is kindergarten through 12th grade. So she drives us to school, which takes about 5 minutes because we are fairly close to the school. We park, and get out and go into the school. All my classes are upstairs, except a few. I go upstairs, and put all my stuff in my locker. I grab my American history book and computer bag with the computer inside of it and go to my American history class and set them down on the table. I talk to some of my friends before the class starts and start drinking my pop. As the class starts, we usually make word documents of notes about what we are learning and something we are working on projects or assignments he gives us. We currently are learning about the manifest destiny. The class is about a hour or so.

After American history I put my book away at my locker. I either have chorus or study hall depending on the day. I have chorus on Monday and Weds day and study hall on the other days. During chorus I would not bring my laptop because we don’t really need them. We sing and practice for our next concert. We have to do choir lessons each semester so we can work on making our vocals better. If its not a Monday or weds day, I go to study hall. Study hall is where most of the people are in. It’s a big room where you study and catch up on any of the homework you haven’t done. I usually do math because my next class is math. Chorus and study hall are about an hour too.

I carry my math book, computer, and notebook to my math class. This is the class where I think I learn the most because we are always learning something different. At the beginning of the class, we check our homework from yesterday and write on price of paper how many points we got. My teacher’s assistant which is my track and basketball couch helps her put in the grades while my teacher starts teaching the lesson. We write down all the stuff on her tech white board onto our notebooks and date it. Then she gives us a assignment and we usually have a couple of minutes to start working on it. This class is about a hour and so too.
When I get out of math class I put all my math homework in my book bag so I wont forget it, and the other stuff that I don’t need just in my locker. We usually have homework so everything goes in my book bag. I get out my choice of book and computer and head to my language arts class. This is the class I have to write this for Ha-ha. We usually read and have some pretty cool assignments. Just a week ago, we finished up a project where we had two big groups writing a book. My group’s book was strange, and really had no plot but when we finished it we had to make a movie trailer. It was really fun and funny! Each Friday we have Friday book report. You have to do two book reports each semester. One is oral where you sit in the front of the class and she asks you questions about the book your read. The other ones have to be on your computer. It doesn’t matter what it is, or can be a imovie or PowerPoint or even a word document as long as you answer all the questions that she asks you. This class is also a hour or so.

Then I go downstairs and go to art room for adivorsity. Adivorsity is about 30 minutes and it’s a class so you know what your grades are and what you are missing. The teacher also reads the accounment for you, which you get in your email. Its kind of like a little study hall, but I usually don’t do anything. I just talk to my friends.

I go back upstairs when adivorsity is done, and get my science book out of my locker and go to science class. We read from the book and take notes and do assignments in there. We haven’t done any labs but its life science so we are learning about volcanoes and earth and rocks. We once went outside and found cool rocks so we could share with our classmates. This class is about a hour or so and then we head of to lunch!

At lunch we eat and talk to friends. We type in our number and get our food. If we don’t like what they are serving that day we have the choice of getting salad bar. I sometimes get that when I don’t like what they are having. Our lunches are the best they could be better but they are all right. Lunch is about 20 minutes.

After lunch is 6th hour. There are three classes in this period, Pe/vr/Heatlh. During pe we do our fitness test and do active activities to keep in shape. During Vr we use our computers to make virtual houses and look at other programs to understand technology more. During health we learn about our body and bones. We have projects and assignments for all of these classes and they are about 30 minutes each.

After 6th hour is 7th hour. 7th hour is enrichment something. It changes every semester. Right now, im in enrichment science. We are doing some pretty cool stuff in this class. We have these things you plug in the computer, where you can put it on something and it will read the temperature and graph it for you. It was really fun! There is also language arts enrichment and writing enrichment. All of these classes are made for you to get more out of your other core class. These classes are about a hour or so.

After 7th hour is 8th hour. The last hour in our school! These classes change every 6 weeks. Including art, finance, Spanish, and other extra classes like that. I am in art right now. Art class is down stairs. So I go down stairs and sit down on the table. We are doing clay projects so I usually just listen to my ipod while I paint or draw or whatever im doing. This class is about one hour and so. After that the bell rings and I head up to my locker to get all my stuff. I usually have track or basketball practice after school. Practice is about a hour and we just workout and practice shooting the ball or running our meets.

After practice my mom picks me up and I go back to our house. I check if I have homework and if I do, I do it. It takes me a hour to get it all finished, but it depends how much I have. I have dinner after that, and brush my teeth and take my make up off and go to bed. J

Marie Lowman

When I wake up in the morning at 7am I sleep in l0 minutes more then I should. After I wake up I brush and straiten my hair. Then I put on cloths and a little makeup and brush my teeth. I try to go as fast as I can but according to my dad I don’t go fast enough so he is yelling at me to get down stairs. I run to pack my stuff, go downstairs and get some pop, and run out the door. But sometimes I wake up at 6:30 to take a shower. I always shut my eyes and then feel the heat from the water roll over my body. I usually stay in there for 15 minutes. I get out and put my Pajamas back on. I go out by my sink and plug my blow dryer in then I flip my hair down and start to dry it. When I am done I go down to my kitchen and eat breakfast. Then I do what I would do if I were to wake up at 7am.
When I get to school I put my things in my 1st hour class and then get some of my friends and go down to breakfast. I always eat my main meal fist, and then I drink my apple juice. After I go back to my class I give my Cinnamon Toast Crunch to one of my friends. When I sit down (my first hour class is history) at my table I wait till the boy that sits next to my friend to move by his friends and I take his set. In history I never have a pencil so I have to barrow one or use my computer (but it depends on if I charged my laptop at night).
After we get out of 1st hour I go to study hall. I sometimes work on my history homework (if I have any) but it is usually math that I am working on. After I get my math done I check my grades online and then I go talk to some friends or play on my computer.
In 3 hour (which is math). I really try to listen because her tests are over 120 points usually. We check our assignments and then see how many points we got. (Her assignments are worth 2 points). And if someone does not get their assignment done she makes them right an email home and to her saying it was late. After we check our assignments we learn about what our assignment is going to be like then when she gives them to us she makes us work on it (Even if there is 30 seconds of class left).
Before I go to 4th hour I check my phone to see if I got any new messages. Then I walk to class. My teacher tells me good morning in her enthusiastic voice and smiles at me like today is the best day ever (It always brightens up my to see her). I go to my seat and wait till class starts. Usually in this class our teacher tells us the funnies stories. And we goof around a little then we get to work. Most of the time our teacher gives us a topic and we have to write a paper on it, but sometimes she just tells us to read a free reading book. Sometimes she lets us do our work on the couch if it is a good day.
When the bell rings and it is time to leave. The whole school has 30 more minutes of study hall (we call it advisory). So I first go get my science book and then go ask my advisory teacher to go to another teacher so I can hang out with my friends and talk, because I usually don’t have anything to do because I get all my homework done. Every advisory I check this girls lunch box because sometimes she gives me food.
(We are the last lunch to eat and I am really super hungry by then).
When we get out of advisory I go strait to science. Our teacher is usually out in the hall so we open the windows (if it is a sunny day out) and sit by them. When he comes back inside the classroom the whole class always begs for him to let them go out side. When he says no he tells us to take our seats and he starts to teach. We always get off topic and then he only gets to teach for half the time.
We go strait to lunch. I always walk by my friend Sidney and Jenny. When we go to lunch I decide if I want salad bar or hot lunch. There is a boy in my lunch and he tries to make everyone laugh by being gross and he mixes his food together sometimes and he tells someone to eat it.
In 6th hour we either have health, PE, or VR (virtual reality). In Health the teacher lets my friend Sidney and me, help her with things she needs to get done. In PE we do our activity and then (if we have free time at the end of class) Jenny, Sidney, and me play volleyball. In VR we learn about how to make 3 dimensional objects and we have to work on them until class is over.
After that we go to 7th hour I walk back into history but instead of learning history we have a writing class. I sit by this girl named Allison. Allison and I always talk when we are supposed to work.
Now we go to the last hour of the day. In Finance I sit in my swivel chair and I talk to my little 7th grade friends and then I do my work. (I don’t really do much in Finance)
After the bell rings at 3:25 I go down to the locker room and get changed for track. When I get changed I go outside and run 2 warm up laps. Then when the rest of the team comes out we stretch. When the coach comes out she tells us what we are running that day. She usually works with the short distance people (which is me) so I have to work hard so that she will put me in for a lot of events. When we are done doing our workout she lets us go home. I walk back into the locker room and call my mom to come pick me up. Then I go out into the lobby and wait for her. I set my stuff down on the bench and go get a drink of water. As I am walking back I look at the achievement board. When she comes and picks me up we have to drop off my little brother at baseball practice and she talks for like 15 minutes and then we go home.
When I get home I watch TV for a little bit. Then my next-door Neighbor (he is also my best guy friend) ask if I want to play basketball. We go out side and play basketball for a little bit then we see if my other friends are home (My best friends) and sometimes they are and sometimes they aren’t we go see and then we go back and play more basketball. At like 8:30 to 9pm I go inside and do my homework and watch TV at the same time. (I am not procrastinating it is just that I want to hang out with my friend and the day is sunny and in the night I have nothing to do so I do my homework.)Then after I do my homework I watch That 70s Show. Then I go upstairs and put on my pajamas, brush my hair and teeth, put in my retainer, and go to bed.

My name is Nathan Justman. I go to Van Meter JH. I am in 8th Grade.
I have family in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. My favorite NFL Football team is The Greenbay Packers. My favorite College is The Wisconsin Badgers.
My day starts out with me getting up at 6:20 AM. I take a shower, put my contact in, Brush my teeth, and brush my hair. I get dress it is usually 6:45 by the time I am done. My bus gets to my house at 7:00 AM. My school starts at 8:30 AM.
When I get to the school I have time to shoot baskets. Some kids come to the Gym and we start a game. I still give a kid hard time because he is a Steelers fan. When school start I got to go to U.S. history. My U.S. history teachers name is Mr. Miller but we call him Kmiller because there is more than one miller in the building.
I have study hall after that. We usually just play games, watch YouTube videos, or listen to music. Sometimes I watch YouTube videos of people getting pranked. I thank it is funny when people get pranked and they flip out. It is funny the way react.
After that I have Math. I am in pre algebra. We just got done with prime factorization. We had a test on Thursday. I think I did well.
Then I have LA and Reading. We just made a book in LA/Reading. It wasn’t the best by no means but it wasn’t the worst. We had to make I movie trailer. The book. Some how it was funny when the it was about a scary book.
I have another study hall. It is an hour when the teachers talk to us about our grades and tell us what we can do to make them better. After you are talked to you do what ever you want. It is kind of boring. Sometime I think I don’t need it.
I Have Earth Science After that. I hate that class. I do the worst in that class. I have the worst time in that class. We are learning the Atmosphere.
During 6th hour I have PE, Health, or VR. PE is my favorite class because I like sports. Then I have enrichment reading it is were we read books in a group.
I have Art the last hour of the day.
Our school is kind of small. All our grades are in one building. Are school sports aren’t the best but they are not the worst. Our high school football team went to the state playoffs but we lost in the second round. Baseball we are pretty good. Our basketball is good they made it to the playoffs but lost.

My Day
By Sarah Walter

I wake up at 5: 30 am every weekday because a teacher gives me a ride to school and she has to be there by 7: 30 and it is a half and hour drive to school. I get in the shower. After I am done in the shower I usually put the shirt on that I am going to wear that day which is almost always a t-shirt, and pajama pants. I then dry my hair and either straighten it or put it up in a ponytail or messy bun. After I am done with my hair I go into my kitchen and eat breakfast. I usually have cereal or toast. When I am done eating I watch the news for a little bit to find out what it is going to be like outside, and what is going on. After that I go and do my makeup. First I put foundation on if I decide to wear it that day, which sometimes I don’t. Then I put mascara on, I never use eyeliner because I don’t think it looks good on me.
When I am done with that I go and put my pants on that I am going to wear that day, today I wore jeans and yesterday I wore sweatpants, which turned out to be not such a good idea for that day. When I am done with that I go and put my books in my backpack and put my charger back into my laptop case. My school has the one-to-one laptops. After I am done getting my things together and putting them by the front door I put my lunch together because I have a pack lunch almost everyday. After that I go brush my teeth and fill up my blue water bottle that I bring to school everyday, and now I am ready. I go sit by the front door on a couch and wait for the teacher. When she gets there around 7:00 am we sit in the car and drive to school. While driving, we listen to Harry Potter and right now we are listening to the sixth book.
When we get to school me and my sister and brother go up to her room and either finish homework or do whatever we want. Our school has a coffee shop on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays so sometimes I get a hot chocolate or cappuccino. Around 8:10 I usually go to my locker and put my books in my locker. My locker is kind of a dark blue, it has a bottom locker where I keep my backpack and coat and my top locker where I put my books and lunch. I have a lot of pictures in my top locker also. My first hour class is History, taught by Mr. Miller, also known as K Mill because we have two Mr. Miller’s and one Mrs. Miller. History goes from 8: 30 to 9: 12. We have recently bean talking about Manifest Destiny in Mexico, Texas and the U.S. We usually go to his moodle-hub website and either download an assignment, or we answer questions that he had posted. We discuss a lot about different things, and sometimes I bring food, like cookies or cereal to his class because he doesn’t really care.
In second hour I have band or study hall depending on the day. On Mondays and Wednesdays I have study hall and on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday I have band. In band I play the flute and currently we are playing the song America The Spirit Lives On. I am fifth chair in band, though I would be fourth but we let one of the sixth graders sit up with her friends that are the first two chairs. In study hall today I finished my math homework and played the game ninja with my friends.
In third hour today I had Earth Science with the other Mr. Miller, B Mill as we call him. In his class today we went over the first section in the chapter we started, called Weather Factors. After we talked about it he gave us the assignment, to answer questions in the section assessment. Most of the class got that done in class, including me.
In fourth hour I go to Mrs. Wesselmann for Language Arts. In that class today we are writing these papers about our day to you in very good detail. Yesterday in her class we just free read the whole period.
After I have Language Arts I have Advisory with Mrs. Miller. Advisory is about half and hour long. It is times were kids could catch up on homework and get help on their assignments if they need to. Today in Advisory I went with one of my friends down the Elementary part of the K-12 school to talk to one of the teachers about Battle Of the Books. After that I went to the Library were my Advisory is and finished my math assignment.
In fifth hour I have math with Mrs. Carey. In that class we always start out checking our assignment. After that we take notes and do the lesson for the day. At 12: 30 our class goes to lunch. We have the choice of either the main lunch or salad bar. Our lunch goes until 12: 50 and then we go back to math until 1: 04. When we get back to math we get out assignment for that night because we always have math homework, except for the day before a math test and the day of a math test. We usually get some time to start our assignment also.
When math is done I go to either health, PE or Virtual Reality. In PE right now we are doing fitness testing. In Virtual Reality we are working on Sketch-up and finishing make what we think our school will look like in ten years.
For seventh hour I have enrichment science with Mr. Armistead. Right now we are working on making games on a website. Our assignment from a couple days ago was to make a game with three levels.
In eighth hour I have shop with Mr. Cooper. In that class we are currently working on making a piggy bank out of wood. We were given a block of wood and a piece of paper with the outline of the piggy bank. I am right now working on sanding the outside of mine.
After school I have track practice. I am one of the two managers for the girls’ team. During practice I fill up water bottles, get ice for the girls, time people that need to be timed and act as a nurse if someone falls and gets hurt. Practice usually ends around 4: 45 or 5:00. After it ends I go up to the coach’s room and get my stuff that I leave there during practice. She gives me and my brother and sister a ride home and by the time we get there it is 5:30 or so.
When I get home I go jump on our trampoline for a little while than I go inside and start my homework. I almost always do my homework in my bedroom in a corner next to my bed, or I do it in my living room on the couch. I usually start with my math homework. About halfway though my homework I check my facebook for about 15 minutes. Around that time supper is ready. When I am done eating I usually get back on my homework for a while and than I take a break and play outside with my little sister who is 11. By then it is getting dark so we go inside and watch, or at least start a movie or something. By then it is about 10:15 or so and I check my facebook for a while. When I am done with that I go get ready for bed and usually get in bed at about 11:00 or 11:30 depending how long I am on facebook.

David Henderson
First I head straight to my locker and put my backpack away. Then I go to Kmil’s for American history. Generally just powerpoints that talk about time before the 20th century. He hates teaching it seems like.
Then I go to study hall in the study hall room. I just play games or work on math. All my friends are in there so it’s fun. Kmil’s in charge of that class too.
Then I go get my math book from my locker and head to Mrs. Carey’s room for Pre Alegebra. She’s a good teacher, but all we do is take notes and have homework everyday. I’d like to do something different.
I put my math book back in my locker and go to Mrs. Wesselmann’s room for language arts. We do writing comps a lot and every Friday we do book talks.
Then I go back to my locker and get my science book and head to the study hall room for Mr. Fitkin’s class. He teaches every subject for our grade, we’re pretty much split in half. In Fitkin’s class we talk about land features, rocks and earth.
I leave my stuff in the study hall room and go to lunch. Lunch is pretty good and lots of my friends give me theirs, because they think it’s nasty. I like the food.
I go get my stuff and put it in my locker. Then I head to PE, VR, or Health. I hate PE mainly because of Mr. Jones. All we do is strength testing and work sheets. VR (Virtual Reality) is taught by the shop teacher Mr. Cooper who’s a strict monotone 20 year old man. Every one hates his class. Health isn’t bad. Mrs. Callahan’s cool. She’s also the FCCLA director and teaches FCS.
Then I go to my trimester. Right now I’m in Mrs. Wesselmann’s Enrichment English class. All we do is class read and lit circle groups. And every Friday is our fourth grade buddy’s which is fun.
The last hour all I have is my hex class. I’m in literature and learning Chinese. Mrs. Prouty teaches that class and it’s fun. Chinese is a hard language though, but I think I’m better at it than an average person.
Then I just go to the lobby and my dad takes me home.

Leana Howard

A normal day for me, at my mom’s house, usually starts out kind of early; sometimes I wake up as early as five-o-clock in the morning. I get up early so that if I have to I can take a shower, when I take showers in the morning I get up early because I usually either scrunch or blow-dry my hair, if I blow-dry it I usually straighten it or, don’t really do anything at all with it. After doing my hair I get ready for the day, I put on make-up and I brush my teeth. I like listening to music in the morning it kind of wakes me up, but, I listen when I go to bed too, so, it’s nothing special. If I have time I eat, or I just get my homework together and if I have something that I need to do, I do it.
When I finish with my stuff, I usually help get my little brother ready and, if need be, I wake up my baby brother and get him dressed. I make sure my big brother is up and make sure if he is he’s ready and we leave the house to catch the bus at 7:42ish.
Getting to school I go to the cafeteria to meet up with my group of friends and sometimes I eat breakfast. We sit there and talk, laugh, and make jokes and when we know its time we leave the cafeteria and go up to our lockers. We are lucky cause our lockers are right next to each other; accept for a few of us. My friend Jacob and I walk to our first hour class, we have US History.
After departing US History I go to my locker and drop off my books. For second hour I usually go to either Study Hall or Band, I have Study Hall Monday and Wednesday. I have Band the other three days of the week, but after that I go to my third hour class.
I have Pre-Algebra, I love math and it’s one of the very few things that I am good at and make sense to me. I usually walk to Pre-Algebra alone or with one of the two friends, Maddie or Lexi. Shortly after Pre-Algebra I go to my next class.
But, not without making a stop at my locker first, then I head on to Reading/Language Arts. In this class, I usually sit next to Jacob and Chandler. They don’t really get along, sometimes it gets on my nerves cause I get in the middle, it’s really annoying, but I usually break it up. Sometimes I can’t so I just stop talking to the both of them. After this class I have advisory, I usually work on my assignments, but sometimes when I have nothing to do I go to a friends’ advisory.
After advisory I have to go to my locker again, then I grab my Earth Science book and head there. In Earth Science in the end of it I have lunch, so I leave my things in the room and go to my locker to meet a few friends. My friends are very oddly people, but then again, so am I. I guess that would by why we’re friends. We head down for lunch and during lunch; we eat, and talk about multiple things.
When we are dismissed from lunch we head back upstairs, I have to go back to my class to re-collect my things. I go to my locker and return my stuff, take my laptop and that’s usually the only thing that I bring to my next class. I have three different classes that switch back and forth for this period. On Mondays and Wednesdays I have Gym, on Tuesdays I have Health, and on Thursdays I have Virtual Reality. Friday is a different story, between quarters it changes between the transition on Tuesdays and Thursdays or Gym. This quarter I go back and forth each week between either Virtual Reality or Health.
After this confusing agenda, I have my enrichment course, this course I have Language/Reading Enrichment. In there we are reading a book as a class and after that we individually read a book in which we are in groups of the book but, we read it individually and we have different worksheets that we have to fill out. In my group we are reading a book called Chains, it’s about a little slave girl and her struggles. But, on Fridays we go into a fourth grade room and work with our fourth grade buddies.
Eighth period switches throughout the year, this is my hex class. This hex I have F.C.S. we are cooking and learning about babysitting and taking care of children. We are done with our cooking unit; I very much like this class though. After this class, it is the end of the school day, and I go to my locker with my friend Alexandra, we call her Alex for short, we get our stuff and say our goodbyes until the next day. After getting my things I go and catch my bus, I am the last stop so it takes a while.
Getting off the bus I go down to my mom’s house and most of the time I watch my little brother until my brother Shad gets out of track. Sometimes I have to watch both little brothers, watching them I don’t get much done homework wise. When my mom gets home or my step dad gets up I usually go to my room and remain in there for the rest of the night, usually only coming out if Maddie comes over or it’s time to eat or I have to go to the bathroom. In there I do homework and talk to my friends online while doing my homework and I listen to music.
When I get most of my homework done I usually go to bed, and if I don’t want to wake up early to take a shower I take a shower at night. This is usually my day, and its usually pretty hectic, but I’m kind of used to it by now. Sometimes things tend to get a little too hectic though, but, most of the way, I’m used to everything that happens. Though I go week from week with this agenda because things change if I am at my daddy’s house. I go back and forth, but I figured my days at my mom’s house are a little less confusing, so it would be easier to explain. This would be my life, and it’s simple as that.

Maddy Darrah:

My Day:
I wake up at 6:15 in the morning. I put on shorts and a tank top. Then I wash my hair and wrap a towel around my head. Then I sit in front of my mirror. I blast my ipod on its speakers and jam out while doing my makeup. When doing my makeup I do my liquid foundation first then my powder, so it leaves my face smooth and blemish free. Then I curl my eyelashes, then do mascara. Then eyeliner, but never a lot of eyeliner because I don’t want to look fake. Then I dry my hair and pick out something to wear, usually shorts and flip flops, no matter what the weather is like. Then I get a glass of milk. Then my sister is screaming for me to get in the car to go to school Once we get to the school, we park then go in the school set my stuff in my First hour history class. Then I go find Kylee (My BFF). Then the bell rings and we go to class. Then we get a lecture about not doing our homework. Then he gives us a forum on the Internet to respond to. So then after that he usually has a power point to show us on what we are currently learning. Then we pack up our stuff and the bell rings for second hour. Then I go to studyhall. I sit in this little room with the guys, Cody, Brady, Jacky, Nathan, and Michael. So I really don’t get any work done. But I never really have any to do. In study hall I eat a pop tart and listen to music, cause I never have homework. Or I do my makeup. Then the bell rings for 3rd hour. Then I go to math, We check our assignment from last night. Then he gives us the new homework and time to work on it during class. Then Language class. (It’s my favorite) We do different things everyday, which I like because I don’t like doing the same thing DAY AFTER DAY. It gets boring. Then the bell rings for advisory. Then advisory, it’s kind of like a studyhall, but I usually walk around the school and go talk to my teachers about my grades. In advisory I usually get a coffee and relax with my friends or do any homework that I have. Then I have Science, Science usually gets done early so up my make up & get on twitter. Then I go to lunch. At lunch I sit with The Freshman girls & I usually laugh so hard milk goes out my nose. Then it’s sixth hour. So depending on the day, I would have Gym, Health or Technology, But I’m pretending it’s Thursday, So I have Technology. So I walk outside to the technology building. We never do anything in this class. Then we go to seventh hour, which is like reading, and first my teacher reads us a chapter or two on the read aloud book. Then we go to our Literature Circles and read out of those books. Then the worst class, Finance we really don’t do anything except take tests we were never taught about. Then the bell rings and I RUN downstairs to the school lobby and find my sister so that she doesn’t leave with out me. Once I get home I take a shower. Shower, Dry my hair, Re do my make up (Same Procedure as up there^) Then I put on my dance clothes and get my dance bag Call my Dad to see where he is, Then he picks me up at like 5. And we go to the dance studio. He drops me off. & I go down stairs of the studio where I teach a tumbling class. The kids come down, We stretch & then work on there dance. Then at 5:30 there parents come down and pick them up. At 5:35 I have Funk Tap, Then at 6:00 I have jazz Then I have Tap Then Ballet. Then my mom comes to pick me at 8:15. Then we usually go eat somewhere because I haven’t had dinner yet, Then I go home and get on face book until like 10. Then I change my clothes, and lay in bed and text people until I fall asleep.

Summer Sobotka:

I wake up at 6:15, reluctantly. I jump into the shower for usually 10 minutes. When I get out I put sweats on, otherwise I get makeup all over my clothes for the day. I brush my wet hair and put moose in it. I then moisturize my face, then go and get coffee to let it settle. I get back and do my makeup, pick out clothes, and then blow dry my hair until it is about damp, get changed, then blow dry it all the way. I go over with the straightner a few times because my hair is naturally really straight. I then get my stuff together and get on the bus.
I go to Van Meter. It has k-12 all in one building, it is so small. We have an all brick building; some parts are a lot newer than some parts. The high school is upstairs and the elementary is downstairs. The hallways are all very small and hard to get through in between classes. I cannot stand our bathrooms. Most of them are old and gross with backed up toilets. A lot of them don’t even have stalls that close. I try my best to not go to the bathroom, but the coffee in the morning does not help the cause.
My first hour class is History. The first thing that we usually do is get out our computers (in case you didn’t know, we have out own one on one laptops we take home) and go to his website, on moodlehub.com. We have a forum to fill out almost everyday. A forum is a thing that asks questions, usually five at the most, and we reply back to them answering them. We can see what others wrote too. We either do that first, or go over assignments we had. Mr. Miller, our teacher, who we usually call Mr. Kmill, since there is another Mr. Miller, will either go over a PowerPoint we take notes on or just give us assignments. Then we go off to 2nd hour.
2nd hour is one of my favorites, study hall. I try as hard as I can to get all my homework done in a short amount of time, then goof off the rest of the hour. I usually do either history or algebra because that is the only homework I usually have. I like to talk to everyone the rest of the hour, or just get on different websites.
3rd hour may be the least of my favorites, science. This is the other Mr. Miller, but we call him Mr. Bmill. He gives us quite a bit of time before making us sit down, and then when he does, it is pretty boring. We just sit and listen to him talk about the section we are learning about. Sometimes, he can get way off topic. I will admit, that I have learned a lot in his class though. Sometimes we will have little assignments, but usually we don’t unless it is the chapter review.
4th hour is Language Arts, the class I am writing this for. We get a lot of free days to read books and we have a lot of fun projects. We just recently got done writing a book in small groups. My group’s book had 8 chapters and each one was about 4-10 pages so it was pretty big. It was an all right book I think. I won’t explain it though because it had a really big and complex storyline.
After 4th hour we don’t go to 5th hour right away. We go to advisory with our advisors. Is like a study hall, and it is supposed to be used for asking our advisors about our grades and stuff. I don’t usually use it for that because I don’t have much homework and my grades are all A’s so I usually just mess around on the Internet and stuff.
5th hour is my algebra class. I really like it actually. That makes me sound like a nerd, but really I just like how the teacher teaches and stuff. We have lunch right in the middle then come back to it, so that is really annoying, especially if we have a test that day. I skipped pre- algebra so I thought that I might have a difficult time with this class, but I don’t really.
6th hour is really confusing. We either have PE, virtual reality, or health class. I don’t really like PE, not because I don’t like to exercise, but I just don’t like what we usually do in it. I do not like virtual reality because we use programs on the computers that are really confusing and I don’t feel like the teacher explains it enough. I like health though, because the teacher is one of my favorites and we don’t do that much in it.
7th hour I am in Enrichment Social Studies, but they change every 12 weeks or so. I thought that in Enrichment Social Studies we would be learning about history and stuff, but he just teaches us how to write papers and stuff. It is kind of boring I think, but I’m fine with it. I feel a little bad for this teacher because no one respects him a lot, and he is a good teacher.
8th hour changes every 6 weeks. They have literature, FCS, Technology, Finance and shop. Right now I am in Finance, and we just learn about banks and things. Nothing too interesting ever happens in that class, and I don’t really like it, but we never have assignments so that works for me. By this time of the day, I am just trying not to throw my computer all the way across the room from all the home sync errors that pop up. I get so annoyed I about punch my laptop.
Now it is time for me to go home. I usually ride the bus and don’t get home until 4:15 or so, and when I do the first thing that I do is eat and do homework, if I have any. I might have dance or church some nights, or some I might just hang out with friends, wishing the weekend was here, or I just sit and watch TV and get really bored, then go to bed. Well, that’s usually my typical weekday, really boring, I know. The weekends are where the fun is at.

Cody Blackwell:
My Day At VM
7 AM got to get up go to the bathroom. I got to eat breakfast, and then get ready for school. I usually leave around 8:15ish. When I get to school, I go to my locker, and then I just chill and talk with my friends a little bit. I go into my first hour class a couple minutes before the bell rings and listen to music on the couch.
My first hour class is Language. The stuff I do in language is pretty simple. My teacher is Mrs. Wesselmann. In this class we read a lot, and do things related to that. In this class I have a lot of my friends in. I also sit close to all of them. I can’t say that I don’t talk to them because I do, but I don’t get myself in trouble with it.
After Language, I have Study Hall as my second hour class. In this class, almost all of my friends are in it. I talk a little bit too much in this class. I do anything I want to in this class. I usually use it to do work in, but not always. My friends and me always sit in this little side room, everyday we do. We like it in there because it is just like a little hang out and because we don’t have to put up with everyone else’s crap. ßrofl
When my Study Hall is over, I go to Earth Science, yuck! I honestly can say that I hate this class with a burning passion. Yes, I do sit with my friends, but it still sucks. I don’t like this class because I see no point in it, and I don’t always do that well in it. It just isn’t for me. It is mostly the subject that I don’t like.
My fourth hour class is American History with Mr. Miller. This class isn’t that bad. I don’t mind it. I like it because I sit next to my closest friends, but there are some ups and downs with the actual class. We do a lot of work in this class and it is hard for me to do well on my work because this subject just bores the crap out of me. I think that if I liked it more, I would do better at it and like it more. But I just don’t like the subject.
After my fourth hour class, I go to Advisory. Advisory is basically a short study hall. This class is for you to get your work done. It is also so that your advisory teacher can talk to you about your grades and help you if you are doing badly in them. In this class I am with a bunch of kids that are younger than me. It’s kind of hard to get work done in this class because the only thing the younger kids do is play games. It is annoying and immature.
After Advisory, I go to Math. I personally love math. I am in a higher math class than I should be. I really do like this class. I don’t always do well in it, but I love it. Everyday we take notes and learn the lesson, and then we do our assignments. In the middle of this class, we go to lunch. I love going to lunch because I get to see all of my friends. After lunch we go back to math and finish up.
For sixth hour, I either go to Virtual Reality, Health, or P.E. My favorite out of those three would have to be P.E. by a long shot. P.E. is my favorite class out of the day. I have it three days a week, and I’m with all of my friends. It helps to that my P.E. teacher is Mr. Jones because he was my football coach a couple years ago and we are a lot alike each other. Him and me get along and I have an A+ in his class.
In seventh hour right now, I am in an Enrichment class with Mrs. Wesselmann. This class is okay. The only problem with it is that I don’t like reading, and that is all we do. Except for Fridays because we go down and have fourth grade buddies. My buddy is pretty cool. We are a lot alike, and we get along with each other.
In eighth hour, I have a language class. In this class I have to learn French. This class truly stinks. I hate it. It is the stupidest class I have ever had. When am I going to need to learn French? NEVER! I think it is pretty stupid. I am with like 3 of my friends. It is pretty stupid.

Josh Ladehoff:
Morning: Every morning I wake up at 7:30, get dressed, and then I go downstairs and eat breakfast, I usually have French Toast sticks for breakfast, after I finish breakfast I go upstairs and brush my teeth, then I pack up my laptop and backpack for school, grab my lunch, then I drive (under parental supervision) to school, I’m usually at school at around 8:00 a.m., once I’m at school I go to my first class and hang out there until the bell rings

1st Period (Reading): 1st period starts at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 9:12 a.m., each day we usually do something a little different but we usually work on our laptops or read, I sit at the very back of the room in the far right corner

2nd Period (Band/Study Hall): 2nd period starts at 9:15 a.m. and ends at 9:57 a.m., every Monday and Wednesday I have Study Hall, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday I have Band, during Study Hall I usually finish any homework I have or I just talk quietly with my teacher or the other kids, obviously we play music during Band, I play the Alto Saxophone

3rd Period (Science): 3rd period starts at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 10:42 a.m., Science is definitely not one of my favorite classes, the class always seems to last forever, each day we usually read from our books or do some sort of assignment

4th Period (History): 4th Period starts at 10:45 a.m. and ends at 11:27 a.m., History is one of the more interesting classes, my teacher (Mr. Miller) is really funny and makes the class interesting, each day we usually take notes from a PowerPoint or work on an assignment

Advisory: Advisory starts at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 11:57 a.m., each day we have a class known as Advisory, basically I get together with a group of kids within my grade range (Junior High) and we use the time as a Study Hall or we go around the school (with our teacher’s permission) and ask teachers for help with our homework

5th Period (Algebra): The first half of 5th period starts at Noon and ends at 12:30 p.m., each day the first thing we do is check our assignments, then we learn a new lesson and take notes on that lesson, we usually try a few practice problems before we run out of time and go to lunch

Lunch: Lunch lasts from 12:30 p.m. to 12:50 p.m., I bring my own lunch from home which consists of a peanut butter & jelly sandwich and two cups of applesauce, I sit with the same group of friends every day

5th Period (More Algebra): After lunch, I finish the rest of 5th hour, which lasts from 12:50 p.m. to 1:04 p.m. for the remainder of the class we usually work on a few more math problems before we’re given our homework, we rarely get an assignment that’s small enough to be finished in 8-10 minutes so we almost always have homework

6th Period (Health/P.E./ Virtual Reality): 6th period lasts from 1:07 p.m. to 1:50 p.m., every Monday I have Health, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday I have P.E., and every Wednesday I have Virtual Reality, during Health we read from the health packet our teacher printed for us and discuss the packet, the packet talks about what to do when someone’s injured, good Samaritan laws, how to do CPR, etc., during P.E. our teacher teaches us how to be physically healthy by showing us different exercises and letting us play sports during P.E. like soccer, during Virtual Reality our teacher teaches us how to use a computer app on our Macs, after he teaches how to use the program he asks us to make a project using that program

7th Period (Enrichment): 7th period lasts from 1:53 p.m. to 2:38 p.m., our enrichment class is basically a 12 week class that teaches us a specific skill, I’m currently in the writing enrichment course, this course will last for the rest of the school year, during enrichment we discuss topics, research the topics, then we put our information together into an outline, then we write a paper stating our opinion on the topic, then we do it all over again

8th Period (Technology): 8th period starts at 2:41 p.m. and ends at 3:25 p.m., 8th period is known as our ‘Hex’ class, every 6 weeks our ‘Hex’ switches to another class, after I’m finished with Technology I go to Finance, during Technology our teacher has us create projects using Technology, we’re allowed to use any kind of program we want and it can be any length we want it to be assuming it meets the requirements

Bus Ride: unfortunately I can’t drive myself home simply because I’m not old enough, this means I ride the bus, the bus ride lasts about 10 minutes before I’m dropped off at my stop, I live on a hill which means the bus drops me off at the bottom of the hill and I have to walk up the hill if I ever want to get home

Afternoon/Evening: after school I do my afternoon chores such as feeding the dog, then I usually have a quick snack before I start working on my homework, after I’ve finished my homework the rest of the night is mine, I usually make myself some dinner at around 5:30 p.m. or 6:00 p.m., at 7:30 p.m. I go downstairs to exercise to complete an exercise log I have to fill out for P.E., at around 8:00 p.m. I take a shower, and then I play video games or read until I go to bed at 10:00 p.m.

Austin Stoll:

My name is Austin Stoll and I will be telling you a little bit about my day here in Van Meter, Iowa. The first thing that I do, like any other kid, is wake up get some breakfast and go off to school, our school day doesn’t start until 8:30 so while I wait I go to our gym and play basketball with my friends. After the bell rings I am in my first hour class, language and that is also what class we are writing the letters in. Our teacher in this class is Mrs. Wesslemen . My second period is Chorus and Study hall, Chorus is on every Monday and Wednesday, and Study hall is on every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. In chorus we sing a lot of good songs, and the teacher for that is Mr. Long, and the Study hall “advisor” is Mr. Miller but we just call him Kmill because his fist name is Kent and people get confused on which one we are talking about because there are two Mr. Miller’s.
My third period class is Algebra and we are learning Scientific Notation and we are just about to take a test over the whole chapter, my teacher for that class is Mr. Fitkin and he is really funny and cool because he is a part time comedian. My next class is fourth period and I have US History and we are learning about the North and South in the old days, and just like our Study hall our teacher History is Kmill (Kent Miller). After that we go to something called advisory and, that is almost like a study hall, it comes in between 4th hour and 5th hour. My 5th hour class is Earth Science and my teacher for that is Mr. Miller (Bill Miller not Kent Miller) and we are now learning about weather and how the weather changes and all that stuff.
After all those hours my favorite part of the day comes in LUNCH!! The lunch at my school is pretty good, but some things are not good at all like the pizza, but I do like their cheeseburgers. Than I go to sixth hour and that is either P.E. or Health, Mondays, Wednesday, and Friday are all P.E. days, the teacher fro P.E. is Mr. Jones he is a pretty cool teacher to be around and Tuesday and Thursday are Health and my teacher for that class is Mrs. Callahan and she is my favorite teacher of them all. Some days we also have something called Virtual Reality, and that is taking something called Google Sketch Up (it is a thing were you can make houses, buildings and stuff like that on a computer) and turn things into 3D objects. Then I go to my seventh hour class, that is Enrichment English, the teacher for that again is Mrs. Wesslemen, and every trimester the class for 7th hour changes but we will not change anymore because this is our last enrichment class. There are 3 of them and they are Enrichment Science, Enrichment Social Studies, and Enrichment English.
Now finally my favorite part of the day is EIGHTH HOUR!!!!! That is Family Consumer Science and again with Mrs. Callahan. The reason that I like this class is because we cook in this class and because it is the last hour of the day, finally the school day is over at 3:25 but I still have to go to track practice. My track coach’s name is Coach Trudo and he is pretty fun to have as a coach, but still not my favorite because my favorite was last year’s coach. His name was Mr. Glenn.
Well that is my day here in Van Meter, Iowa so I hope you will write back and tell me about your day too!!

Sincerely,
Austin Stoll AKA Chocolate Bear

Ali Flaherty

I wake up in the morning. I get all ready for school and we leave at about 8:20. School starts at 8:30. When we get there I go up to my first hour class, which is language/reading, with Mrs. Wesselmann. We usually read, write, or do projects in this class.
Then I go to second hour, which is band/chorus, with Mr. Long. I play the saxophone. That class is usually fun. Next, I go to third hour, which is earth science, with Mr. Miller. There is two Mr. Miller’s at our school so we call him B-Mill and the other one is K-Mill.
Fourth hour is history with K-Mill. History sometimes confuses me but its still pretty fun because K-Mill is one of my favorite teachers. After fourth hour we have a thing called advisory where each of us have like a little “family” inside school. Its kind of used as a study hall. My fifth hour is algebra 1 with Mrs. Carey. Math is my favorite subject. In the middle of math we go to lunch, and after lunch we go back to math for a little bit.
Sixth hour is PE, VR, or health. PE is fun with Mr. Jones. VR is a virtual reality class and it is with Mr. Cooper. Mrs. Callahan teaches health. We switch off every day between those three. Its kind of a weird schedule. Seventh hour is called a tri. We have three different classes that each goes for nine weeks and then we switch. I’m in my last one and it is called enrichment English with Mrs. Wesselmann again. Eighth hour is called a hex, because we have each class for six weeks and then we switch again. We’re in our second to last one right now and I’m in Family Consumer Sciences. It’s really fun and Mrs. Callahan teaches it.
When we get out I usually have practice after school for whatever sport I’m in. Right now after school we have track practice. Our coach is Mrs. Heard. After track I go home and eat. I go outside and shoot hoops. My mother makes us dinner which is usually good. I watch TV and do homework until its time to go to bed.

Alexandra Weir:
I wake up at 6:30a.m. I shower. I eat my breakfast (usually cereal). I pack up my computer. Wake up my younger brother age 4. I then get Ready for the Bus at 7:45. I go out to wait for the bus with my siblings and daycare kids (my mom does in-home daycare). Bus comes between 7:55 and 8:05. Get to school at 8:15. Go to the lunchroom to talk to friends
At 8:20 I go to my locker to get my free reading book for book talks
I then go to Mrs. Wesselman’s Language Class. Next we have Chorus on Monday and Wednesday. Band on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday I play the trumpet, flute and french horn mainly the French Horn and Trumpet (Band and Chorus is with Mr. Long). Now we are at 3rd hour and I have Pre-algebra with Mr. Fitkin we learn about numbers I find it very boring. 4th hour is American History with Mr. K. Miller
Now its advisory with Mr. Hyer, a lot of times I go to other advisories
On Monday, Wednesday and Friday our school sells Coffee and Cappuccino and on these days during advisory I get usually get Cappuccino
5th Hour is Earth Science with Mr. B. Miller his class is really hard but he is a good teacher.
6th Hour On Monday I have Health with Ms. Callahan, on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday I have P.E. with Mr. Jones and on Wednesday I have V.R., which stands for Virtual Reality with Mr. Cooper
7th Hour I have Mrs. Wesselman again but this time for Enrichment Reading
8th Hour I have F.A.C.S. (Family and Consumer Sciences also known as Home Ec.) with Ms. Callahan. After 8th hour I go to my locker to get My Math Book usually, that is the main textbook we use. I only have 3 textbooks they are Pre-Algebra, History and Earth Science. Then I go to the bus and I have to make sure that my 3 siblings that are in school are on the bus, I also make sure that the daycare kids are on the bus
When I get home I help my mom with daycare usually by this time it is about 4:00 if the bus is on time. At 5:30 all the kids are gone and its just 4 of my 9 siblings that I live with and My mom is going to school to get her Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education so she leaves for class shortly after. My mom goes to school on Monday and Wednesday, My sisters have tumbling on Tuesdays, Thursday we hang out with family friends and on Friday my mom goes to Card night with the Firefighter’s entire wife’s (my step dad is on the Van Meter Community Fire Department). In the end of it all I go to sleep usually between 10 and 11:00pm

Joey Shepperd:

I wake up at about 7:10, minutes later I put my cloths on. Then I eat breakfast usually cereal of some kind, I brush my teeth and hang out till I have to go to school at 8:20. When I get to school around 8:25 I put my stuff in my locker and go to my first class (which is language) in this class we do some righting or on Friday we do book talks and talk about our books.
After I am done with language I go to second hour witch is study hall, I usually do my math homework or my science homework, if I have time after that I get on my computer and play games. Then I stay in the room for math, we usually practice what we are going to do and then we have an assignment if we ever need help we can always ask Mr.Fitkin.
When I get out of math I go to U.S history, the first thing we do is post on the site, take some notes, and he gives out a short assignment. Then I go to advisory were I do homework, study, or read and sometimes I do play games. Then I go to Earth science where we talk about things that will be on our test, then do an assignment.
Then I go to lunch. After lunch I pick up my stuff from b mills room and head to P E health or virtual technology. In P E we fill out our folders, walk around the gym, do dynamic stretches and do a type of exercises. In virtual technology we work with sketch up but we will be using blender, from time to time we might get an assignment. In health we usually read parts of the book and maybe get some homework, (she rarely gives us homework). Then I go to my enrichment, which is now with Mr. Miller, and it’s about how to right a paper and how to proof read a paper (in that class we usually have an assignment). Then I go to my hex class which is technology with Mrs. Miller and we have practiced lots of things like Internet safety and made some cool videos about something important that happened to us. When that’s over I go to my little sister Courtney’s class and stay until my older then Courtney but younger then me sister jenny comes and we walk home. When we get home I put my stuff in my room and watch TV, Then I go play basketball with friends. When I come back my moms home and we eat dinner. After dinner I watch some more TV, brush my teeth and go to bed at 9:30.

Lexi Bardwell:

My alarms on my phone and my DS wake me up at 6:30 if I took a shower the night before, or 5:45 if I need to take one in the morning. I pack my backpack, and I get ready. It takes a while for me to get ready. I do my hair, makeup, and get dressed. I eat breakfast if I have time. Usually, I don’t have time. I stay in the living room and wait for the bus or sometimes I go to my BFFAE’s house to wait. When the bus goes down the street, I go to the bus stop and wait for it to turn around. I get on the bus and sit by my BFFAE, Alex. We talk until the bus gets to school.
When we get to school, we get off the bus. We go to the lunchroom where people can get breakfast. We sit with our friends Leana, Jacob, and Maddie. We hang out in there until the bell rings. Jacob, Maddie, and Leana go to a different class, while Alex and I go to Language/Reading with Ms. Wesslemann (Before I go to class, I put my backpack in my locker). We work on whatever we are supposed to be doing.
We go to band on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, or we go to chorus on Monday and Wednesday. I play the cornet, which is almost the same as the trumpet, but in my opinion it’s better. After band or chorus, I get my math stuff from my locker and go to Pre-Algebra with Ms Carey. We usually check our assignment, and then we take notes. After math, I go to my locker and put my math stuff away.
I get out my American History stuff, and head to class. When I get to class, sometimes I talk to Alex until the teacher comes into the room. (Sometimes I sit by her, even though it’s not my assigned seat.) After American History, I put my book in my locker, and head to advisory. I go to a bunch of different advisories, because I sometimes work with my friends in their advisories.
After advisory, I go to my locker and get my Earth Science book. Then I go to Earth Science. We usually learn about landforms and things like that. After Earth Science, we go to lunch. Obviously, we eat there…
After lunch, I go to Gym, Health, or Virtual Reality. After that, I go to my Tri., which is Enrichment Social Studies. There, we learn about writing essays, stories, outlines, etc. After Enrichment, I head to my hex, which is finance. In finance we learn about banking and money.
After that, I either go to track practice, or I go to the bus. When I get home, I do my homework. After I do my homework, I walk my dog. Once I get home, I usually text my friends and get on facebook, skype, etc. in my room. I also like to listen to music when I’m in my room. The main music I listen to is punk, rock, and alternative.
Sometimes I play video games during this time. I also watch TV. I like to watch MTV and the teen shows on Cartoon Network such as Adventure Time and Regular Show. After a while of multitasking with all that, I eat supper. During all of that time after school, I might be at a friend’s house instead, or on Wednesday, I will be at church.
Then, I either take a shower, if I hadn’t taken one that day. At around 10ish, I go to bed. I don’t actually fall asleep that early though; sometimes I don’t go to sleep until 1 or 2am.

Brady Ladd:

The first thing I do is wake up wanting to go back to sleep. I roll out of bed and onto the floor just to wake myself up. I get up and go to the bathroom. I go back into my room and get my cloths for the day. I go upstairs and get into the shower. I get in and get out in a good 15 minutes. I then dry off and go eat breakfast. My siblings are normally not up yet so I yell at them (most of the time waking up my mom). Then my mom yells at me. So I go downstairs and play 1 Xbox live match on Blackops. Then I realize that it is 7:50 so I go upstairs and head out for the bus. I get on the bus and I normally yell at the annoying little kids. Then when I get to school I shoot hoops with my buds in the gym. After that I proceed to 1st hour.
1st hour I go to American History. It is my least favorite class next to Science. I get in there and talk to my friends for a little bit before the teacher asks me to sit down. Then we learn about Manifest Destiny (which is boring) but, I sit through and try to pay attention. Most of the time the teacher gets mad at some kids for messing around. It is funny cause then we normally don’t get homework.
Study Hall is my next class. There is a small room where me and a few of my friends sit each day. The teacher doesn’t care unless we are super noisy. Then he tells us to get out and we say “Well be good just give us one more chance.” And he lets us stay in and we kind of calm down. We normally listen to music and play games unless we have homework. Then we work together to get that assignment done.
Then it’s off to math. Math is 3rd Hour and is one of my favorite classes next to language. We get in there and check our assignment from the day before. Then we learn our new lesson. The teacher will call people up to the board and have them do a problem. If you go up she will give you a slip and you put it into a bucket. Later that week if your name is drawn you get a ½ assignment slip. Then we get our assignment that is due the next day.
Next is language and that class is always interesting. We made a video for a scary movie but it turned out to be a comedy. We normally read or write a paper. But most of the time we have fun. The teacher is nice and doesn’t really get mad unless we are completely off task. I don’t normally like reading but this class is fun. We get to do more interesting things besides sit and read or write.
Then I have science. I hate this class. We don’t do anything, no hands on projects, no fun assignments. This class is really boring. I try to make the class fun by getting laughs out of people when the teacher says something fun. Then we laugh and get yelled at which makes us get in more trouble. Most of the time the teacher is in a good mood and he will just go along with the jokes but on his bad days he get MAD. After science I have lunch.
Then I go to P.E. I hate P.E this year because we don’t do the fun games like we used to. I like it when we do fun stuff but then when we do yoga I don’t participate. After P.E it is Enrichment Science we make and play gamed in that class which is always fun. We learn how to make a game interesting and what it takes to make a game. After that we have art. Art isn’t my favorite but its fun to see what I can make. I can be pretty creative if I want to.
After school I have track I do 4 x 200, hurdles, shot put and high jump. I don’t really like track I just do it to stay in shape for football. After track I shoot hoops till my mom gets there then I go home. I go inside and do my homework when that is done I go downstairs and play blackops. Then I go to bed and start all over again.

Sidney Schutte:

My Day

When I wake up, I get dressed then I brush my teeth. I then get breakfast and watch tv. I usually eat a pop tart or something fast. I then go back and do my hair and my makeup, it doesn’t take me that long to do. When I am done with that I pack up my stuff like my laptop and my books.
I then go up to my neighbors house and babysit in the morning. I go up there around 7:10 and the bus comes at 7:40. We get his stuff packed and wait out side. Sometime we play football for a little bit. Then we get on the bus and ride to school that usually takes 30 min. On the bus I just sit with my friends and talk. It is not the most fun or exciting thing in the world, but it is the only way I have to get to school.
When I get to school I have 20 min to unpack my stuff, ask teachers questions and talk to my friends, before school starts. I usually talk to my friends. School then will start at 8:30. I am in history first right now we are talking about sectionalism and manifest destiny. We just got done doing a worksheet and taking notes. We do a lot of slide shows and stuff. We also go to his moodle, which is teachers website, and we do forms and answer questions.
Then I go to study hall or choir. Monday and Wednesday I have choir and Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday I have study hall for second hour. In study hall I do my homework that I got from first hour or I do homework that I didn’t do that was assigned yesterday. Then if there is time I talk to my friends. In Choir I sing. We are singing Color of the Wind; I Am a Small Part of the World, and Double Trouble. I like Colors of the Wind the best. I am an alto so I singing lower.
After study hall or choir I go to third period, which is pre-algebra. We are learning intercepts and slopes. They are easy! We have a smart board. It is a really big and you can write on it and draw graphs and things. It is really cool. She will teach it to us and then she does examples and we go up and do them. We then get slips, which are white slips that say I participated in class today and you put it in a bucket. When the bucket gets full she draws a name and if you win you get a half assignment sheet with two half-assignment slips. I think that is a good Idea.
When math is over I go to fourth hour, which is language Arts. We are writing these letters to you in language right now. This is a fun class. We love our teacher Mrs. Wesselman! We read a lot to and every Friday we do book talks. You have to do two every quarter.
After that I go to advisory and that is really just like another study hall. It is like a half hour long and I usually go up to my friend’s advisory and work on homework or talk there. It is fun!
When advisory is over I go to fifth hour and that is earth science. We just started a new section, we are talking about weather. It is fun; he said we were going to pretend that we are weather people. That is my class right before lunch so we are all really hungry.
When we go to lunch we eat. I love the walking taco’s most. We have salad bar as a chose to. On Fridays we have strawberry milk. The rest we have chocolate or white. I get chocolate because I don’t like white. Lunch is a time for use all to talk. It is fun.
After that I go to sixth hour that is health, PE, or VR. They switch every other day. When I go to health we talk about things like breathing and eating right. Right now we are talking about helping people in danger. PE is normal we do fitness tests and things. So it is pretty fun. When we have time left over we play Volley Ball. I love Volley Ball it is my favorite and only sport I play.
VR is a virtual reality class. We get on things like blender and sketch up. Sketch up is a application where you make things like building, houses, tables, anything you want. Blender is a little harder. If you are really advanced you can make games and things we aren’t so we are making a gingerbread man. There is a lot of different things you can do.
Then I go to seventh hour and I play games. There is a website that you create your own games. It is really cool. I wish we could do a little more in the game, but it is fun to make and play them. You have to go threw a quest thing before you start your game. It doesn’t take that long though. After that I go to art.
Art is fun we just got done glazing our clay projects. I made a chip dip bowl. We have made painting, we have done origami, and we drew 3-D drawings with thirty shapes. Then we have to clean up and that is the end of the day.
I ride the bus home and it takes forty-five minutes to get home. It is fun sometimes, but people are in track and I only have like two friends to ride the bus with. The bus is never the most fun thing in the world.
When I get home I do my homework and then I play Volley Ball with my friend Marie when she is done with track. One Wednesday nights I babysit for about two hours. It is fun to play with the two little boys. Then I take a shower, brush my teeth and hair, and watch TV, while eating dinner. At ten o’ clock I go to bed. Then I wake up at 6:30 and start the day over again.
Our school is a brown brick building. If you have sketch up and application on any computer you can type in van meter school, in the 3D warehouse and it will show our school. A guy in a grade built it on sketch up and it looks exactly like our school. It is a brick building and it is pretty small. We go k-12 here so we only have one building. It is a pretty cool school though, because I like small schools. If you are coming to Iowa I would recommend to go to school here!

My Average Day Kylee Deering

I wake up in the morning, get up, and grab my clothes. I walk into the bathroom and turn on my shower. I shower, dry off, and wrap my towel around me. I brush out my hair and scrunch it with a little bit of product, and then let it air dry because it’s curly. I get dressed, brush my teeth, and then do my makeup. By this time, it’s almost time for school so I usually grab something to eat like a Special K bar or some toast, and head out the door. I get in the car and go to school.
Once I’m at school, I walk into the lobby, past the gym, and up the stairs to my locker. I put anything I don’t need into my locker and then put my laptop in my first hour class, which is history. Then I walk around and talk to people, and sometimes buy a cappuccino, before the bell rings for first hour.
I’m usually not the first one to class, but I’m there on time for first hour. I go to my seat, sit down, and pull out my laptop. I do whatever we’re told to do for class, usually on our laptops, until the bell rings for the next class. The next class is either study hall or band, depending on the day. On Mondays and Wednesdays, I have study hall, and on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, I have band. In study hall, I usually work on any homework I have from the day before that I haven’t gotten done yet. If I don’t have anything to do, I’ll talk to friends, listen to music, get on Twitter, etc. If it’s band, I go in, get my saxophone ready, and sit down in my seat. Then I play whatever song we’re working on that day. The next class is science, so I go to my locker, grab my book, usually talk to friends before the bell rings, and then go to class. I usually set my laptop and book down at my desk, and then socialize before the teacher tells us to sit down in our seats to start class. I do whatever we’re doing in class that day, and towards the end, I usually start checking my phone for time, because that class seems to go on forever. After the bell rings, I go back to my locker to put my book away, again; stand around and talk for a few minutes, then go to language. I sit down and put my laptop by my desk and talk to my friend until the teacher takes attendance. We do more work on our laptops in this class, so I usually get my laptop out and wait for the teacher to tell us what we’re doing that day. After this class is advisory. I go back to my locker and grab my math book because my advisory teacher is my math teacher, who I have right after advisory. I walk over to the beanbags in the corner, sit down by one of my friends who sits in them every day with me, and work on any math I haven’t gotten done before math starts. After advisory is over, I sit down in my desk, put my math book on the desk and my laptop on the floor beside my desk. We go over our assignment from the day before and check it. Then we get little slips to write our name and how many points we got on our assignment and hand them forward. Depending on how many you missed, there’s an amount of points you can get for each assignment. Then I flip open my notebook to a new page and get ready to start taking notes. We take notes and do examples of what we’re learning that day before it’s time to go to lunch at 12:30. We go down to lunch and stand in line. I put in my student ID number, grab milk, silverware, and my tray, and get my food. I sit down at the usual table my friends and I sit at and talk and eat. After we’re done eating, me and three of my friends do rock paper scissors to see who’s going to take the trays up to dump. Whoever loses takes all of the trays. We go back up to the few minutes of math left and get our assignment and start working on it before the bell rings. After that, I go to my locker and put my math book away and go to my next class. The next class is a trimester class that switches every twelve weeks, so I go to whatever class I have. Right now it’s enrichment science. I sit down and set my laptop on the table and wait for the teacher to start talking about what we’re going to do. I work on the things we’re doing in class and quietly socialize with friends around me. When the bell rings I go to my locker and grab anything I need for my last class. This class also changes, but every six weeks instead. Right now I have shop so I grab whatever I have to take home with me so I don’t have to go all the way back upstairs after I’ve walked outside. I walk out to shop and put my laptop bag on one of the coat hooks and walk over to my table. I talk to a couple people and wait for the teacher to tell us what we’re doing and give us the okay to start working. After we’re done, we all clean up and sweep and everything before leaving. When the bell rings, I go back up to the lobby and wait for my little sister to come down and then leave.
Once I get home, I usually get something to eat to tie me over until dinner. Then I get any homework done that I have and clean stalls because we have horses at my house. Then I usually always go to the barn that my show horse is at and that I help train and give lessons at. I give lessons and anything else that needs to be done with my trainer. She usually takes me home after that because the barn and my house aren’t too far apart. When I get home, I have dinner and relax for the evening. Then I go to bed and start over the next day.

Kelsey Hagen:
On a typical day, I get up, take a shower, get dressed, put shoes on, brush my hair and teeth, take my medicine, get my glasses on and tell my mom that I’m ready for school. My mom drops me off at school and she goes to work.
My school is sometimes boring, but usually fun. The hallways are long but narrow and always crowded. The classrooms are small, large, and medium sized rooms. The lunchroom is where we eat lunch and breakfast.
I go to my first class and that’s American History. We learn about The War, The American Revolution, The Alamo, slavery and how people lived in the 1300s-1800s. My teacher is Kent Miller, he sometimes gives us homework and I do it during Study Hall or after school.
My second class is Study Hall and that’s where I work on other homework. I work on History, Math, and Read my book. The book I’m reading for this quarter is called Cages.
My third class is Math. Our teacher is Kim Carey. My classmates and I first check our assignments. If there were a test then we wouldn’t have any homework. Then my classmates and I do examples for our next homework assignment or we study for a math test, then we get an assignment.
My fourth class is Language, where our teacher, Joellen Wesselmann, normally gives us a writing assignment or we read our books for Friday Book Talks. In this class I am starting to read a book called Cages, it’s a really good book.
My fifth class is Earth Science. That’s where my classmates and I learn about the Earth and how it’s made. My teacher is Bill Miller. My class and I are now learning about Weather and how it’s developed.
My sixth class is PE, VR (virtual reality), or Health depending on which day of the week it is. In PE, I play basketball, volleyball, with my classmates and we do yoga, exercises, games, running, and sports. Our teacher for PE is Bart Jones. In VR, my classmates and I work on Sketchup and Blender. Our teacher for VR is Jeremy Cooper. In Health, my classmates and I learn about our body, how it’s made, and how it’s developed. Our teacher for Health is Jennifer Callahan.
My seventh class is Enrichment Science. In that class, my classmates and I are working on building our own games on our computers, and it’s really fun. My teacher is Trey Armistead.
My final and last class of the day is Shop. In that class, I’m working on making a piggybank out of wood. My teacher is Jeremy Cooper. In the beginning of the Shop quarter I made a bridge and it held about 80-100lbs.
After I school, I have tutoring, with Meg Phillips and she’s a senior. That’s where I work on homework that is assigned to me during school hours. I do it after school so my parents won’t have to deal with it when I get home. I tell them that I don’t have any homework, when I actually do. That’s why I do my homework with Meg after school. She helps me a lot.
After tutoring Meg takes me home, and I wait for parents to get home. My mom makes me dinner, than I go to my room and watch T.V. until it’s my bedtime. Then the next day is school and it’s the same thing.

Tyler Hoy:
My average Friday morning starts with me getting up at around 7:00 am. First thing I do is stretch, stretch, and stretch or else I will not be able to get up at all. Take a shower and wash my hair. After I get out at about 7:15 I go into my room and get dressed. Depending on the weather varies what I will be wearing. After that I go into my living room and see what is going on in the word by watching the news a lot of the time I will get on Facebook and listen to music if there isn’t anything really important going on.
At about 7:45 I will go upstairs and wait for the bus. The bus gets there soon after. When I get on the bus I will listen to music and just basically block out all the noise on my bus. Arriving at the school at about 8:10 we get off and go into the school. I usually eat breakfast. And soon go into my classroom and chat with friends until the bell rings at 8:30 and then starts American History.
Most of the time we take notes or go over assignments. At the end he gives us assignment. (Sometimes) Not usually. Next I stop at my locker to put books away or get books I need from it and straight to study hall I go. Study hall is a pretty loud class. Most people don’t even do what they are supposed to and just run around and scream… It gets very annoying. But I just sit myself into a desk and do my homework. If there is nothing to do and I have all of my assignments turned in I admit I will play games on my computer. But other than that I will just talk to friends or help people with their homework.
After that I stay in the same classroom and then I’m in math. Math is okay its not one of my favorite subjects but I get the job done. Most of the time we have time to work on out assignment in class. Next is language arts. The class I am writing this in right now. Most of the time we will read and if we don’t we write about something. Next is advisory which is just basically a study hall but smaller with a shorter time period. Which is a great time to get your homework done so you don’t have to have any homework.
Then we have my favorite. Science. Science is one of my favorite classes cause we always do something different every day it seems. From taking notes, to doing experiments, quizzes, tests, reading, always something new. I like mixing it up. Then to lunch. Which last for like 20 minutes. Next to P.E… Which is very boring if you ask me. Same thing every time. Run, Pushups, Sit-ups, It always is the same. Then we get free time to do what we want. Basketball, Football (Which I prefer), Hockey, and volleyball. Then to enrichment, which is just different, classes ever 12 weeks. From Science, to Writing, to reading.
Currently I am in Enrichment reading. Basically if you wouldn’t have guessed, we read. Right now I’m reading a book called Assassin. It’s about the murder of Abraham Lincoln. And finally we have the last class, Art. Currently we are making hemp bracelets/necklaces. Its pretty fun I will admit. But we don’t have very long left in the class. Soon we will go to Tech, which is one of my favorite classes of all time. This is what my average day is like. Tell me about yours. -Tyler
